Why Clicker train a horse?

Training horses with a clicker produces an equine partner eager to learn and find the right answer--a horse who often ends up being more interested in figuring something out than getting the reward, whether it's a treat, scratch, belly or back rub. Horses get hooked on learning and enjoy being a playmate instead of a robot.

Here's an example of some behaviors my horse learned via horse clicker training, shaped in gradual steps. For more examples, visit the Horse Clicker Video page here:

Horse Clicker Training in Austin, TX

Red Rabbit with his favorite toy.
Clicker training is a new tool for training horses, although it's been used with marine mammals for years.  This simple communication device opens the floodgates for equine learning and better relationships.

Think of clicker training as the beginning of a personal conversation with your horse. You're building a vocabulary together. Once they learn the basic ABCs, you can teach them just about anything.

If you live near Austin, Texas and are interested in learning or practicing horse  clicker training, contact me and let's get together and play!   freelancefreeman (at) gmail.com
